Claude for Nonprofits just got a plugin that handles grant research, hiring paperwork and donor notes, and it installs itself on eligible plans. Anthropic announced it on October 26, 2026, and says it built the skills with about 30 nonprofit teams. If your organization is verified and on a Team or Enterprise plan, you already have it.
Here is what the plugin does, what it costs, and the one setup step you should not skip.
The short version, if you only have ten seconds:
- Announced October 26, 2026 by Anthropic
- Installs automatically on nonprofit Team and Enterprise plans at no extra cost
- Only for verified nonprofits (more than 25,000 already use Claude)
- Covers fundraising, marketing, hiring, board work and AI-policy checks
- Team seats for nonprofits in low- and middle-income countries cost about $3 per user per month
That is a lot of coverage for a tool most small teams only use for drafting emails.
What the Claude for Nonprofits plugin actually does
A plugin is a bundle of ready-made skills. Instead of writing a long prompt every time, you ask for a task and Claude follows a tested recipe. Anthropic groups the skills into three buckets.
The first bucket helps you extend your team. It covers marketing campaign plans, drafts in your organization’s voice, job posts with interview guides, 90-day onboarding plans, and board work like skills-gap analysis and orientation packets.
The second helps you set Claude up responsibly. The third is the one most small charities will care about: funding.
Grant and donor skills: where it saves the most time
Nonprofit grant writing eats whole weeks for small teams, so this is where the plugin earns its keep. According to Anthropic’s announcement, it can find funders and open grants with cited sources, break down what an RFP really requires, and draft proposals and reports from your own materials.
It also writes the softer stuff: funder briefs, thank-you notes and donor updates. Treat every draft as a first pass. You still need to check figures and deadlines before anything goes out.
Why this matters: small teams rarely have a dedicated grants writer. A cited research step at least tells you where each claim came from.
Start here: map your organization first
Anthropic says to run the “map your organization” skill before anything else, because the other skills lean on it. It records where your donor, grant, finance and policy information lives.
That map is saved per person when memory is switched on. Admins manage who has access, and Anthropic says it does not train its models on customer data by default. So decide as a team whether you want memory on, and tell staff what gets stored.
There is also an AI-policy check. Staff can ask whether a task fits your organization’s own AI policy, and Claude answers from that document. No policy yet? Anthropic points to a Claude Academy tutorial for drafting one. If you are curious how agent skills work across tools, our guide to the Agent Skills standard explains the idea.
Claude for Nonprofits pricing and who qualifies
The plugin itself costs nothing extra. You pay for the Claude Team plan or Enterprise plan. Here is how the numbers compare, with the nonprofit price coming from a third-party report that you should confirm on Anthropic’s nonprofit page.
| Plan | Price per user per month | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Team | $20 billed annually, $25 monthly | Open to everyone |
| Nonprofit Team (verified) | $8, per Data Studios | 2 to 150 seats, plugin included |
| Nonprofit Team, low- and middle-income countries | About $3 | Roughly 90% discount, launched September 2026 |
| Nonprofit Enterprise | Not published | Verified by Anthropic’s nonprofit sales team |
Eligibility reaches beyond charities. Data Studios lists 501(c)(3) groups and international equivalents, public and private K-12 schools, and some mission-based rural health providers. Small Team organizations verify through a partner called Goodstack, which reportedly takes two to three minutes.
The Team minimum is now two people, so a tiny board-plus-director setup can join.
What is still unclear
Anthropic has not said which connectors ship with the plugin. The earlier launch named Blackbaud, Candid and Benevity, but the new announcement does not confirm them for this release.
It also does not explain how an admin can switch the plugin off, and nonprofit Enterprise pricing is missing. Customer results quoted in the announcement have not been independently checked. Ask your Anthropic contact before you build a workflow around any of these.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Claude for Nonprofits plugin free?
The plugin adds no cost on nonprofit Team and Enterprise plans. You still pay for seats on the plan itself.
Who can use Claude for Nonprofits?
Verified nonprofits. That includes 501(c)(3) groups and international equivalents, and, per third-party reporting, some schools and rural health providers.
Do I need to install the plugin?
No. It installs automatically for eligible Team and Enterprise nonprofits. Start by asking Claude to map your organization.
Can Claude write a whole grant proposal for me?
It can draft proposals and reports from your own materials, but you should review every figure, claim and deadline yourself.
For most small nonprofits, this is worth trying this week. Verify your organization, run the mapping skill, and test it on one real grant you already know well, so you can judge the draft against your own knowledge.
