Alexa Tablets Price Starts at $229.99: Android, Google Play and Which One to Buy

The Alexa Tablets price starts at $229.99 for the small Tablet 8 and tops out at $499.99 for the 12 Pro. Amazon announced the lineup on October 8, 2026, and the big change is that these run Android with full Google Play, not Fire OS. Orders are open now.

Quick facts

  • Three models: Alexa Tablet 8 ($229.99), Tablet 11 ($329.99) and Tablet 12 Pro ($499.99).
  • They run Android with Google Play, plus Alexa+ built in.
  • Orders opened October 8. Shipping starts October 14 in the US, Canada and Mexico.
  • The UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain get them on October 19.

If you only want the short version: the 11 is the value pick, and the 12 Pro is Amazon’s shot at the iPad.

Alexa Tablets price and models compared

Amazon named the tablets after their screen size, so “11” is not a version number. Here is how the three stack up, based on figures from MacRumors and GeekWire.

Model Starting price Screen Memory / storage
Alexa Tablet 8 $229.99 8.7-inch 4GB / 64GB
Alexa Tablet 11 $329.99 ($379.99 with 128GB) 11-inch 2.5K, 90Hz 8GB / 64GB
Alexa Tablet 12 Pro $499.99 ($549.99 with Nanomatte display) 12-inch, 3:2, up to 120Hz 8GB / 128GB, up to 16GB RAM

The 12 Pro uses a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 chip. Amazon says it is nearly three times faster than any tablet it has shipped before. The Tablet 11 and 8 use a lower-end MediaTek chip.

Prices are before accessories, which is where the 12 Pro bill grows.

Why Android and Google Play matter

Fire tablets never had the Play Store out of the box, so apps like Gmail, YouTube and Google Docs took workarounds. These new tablets include Google Play from day one.

Amazon’s own services are still front and center, including Prime Video, Kindle, Audible and Amazon Music. Amazon also says Fire tablets will keep working, with at least four years of support after the last Fire tablet it sells.

For you, that means the app gap that held Amazon tablets back is mostly gone. It is a bigger deal than any spec on the list.

What Alexa+ does on the screen

Alexa+ is built into all three models. Its headline trick is On-Screen Intelligence, which can read what is on your display and act on it. Amazon’s example is spotting game dates on a page and adding them to your calendar while flagging conflicts.

The feature is off by default, and you have to opt in. A visual indicator shows whenever Alexa can see your screen, which is a sensible privacy choice.

There are also live sessions, so you can keep talking without repeating the wake word. Full Alexa+ access across your other Alexa devices needs Prime or a separate Alexa+ subscription, according to MacRumors.

Alexa Tablet 12 Pro: keyboard, pen and the real cost

The 12 Pro is a 6.5mm aluminum tablet with quad Dolby Atmos speakers and Wi-Fi 6E. Amazon claims up to 16 hours of video playback. Its Nanomatte screen uses etched Corning glass to cut glare, and you can get it with 128GB of storage.

Reading gets its own mode, too. Open the Kindle app and the tablet silences notifications, cuts blue light and stretches battery life to as much as 20 hours, per Amazon. Pen notes sync to Kindle Scribe.

Two magnetic accessories turn it into a work machine. Add them up and the price jumps quickly:

Item Price
Alexa Tablet 12 Pro (base) $499.99
Pro Keyboard (with trackpad) $149.99
Pro Pen (pressure sensitive) $89.99
Total with both $739.97

Pick the Nanomatte screen and the total reaches nearly $790. That still undercuts a comparable iPad setup, but it is no longer a budget buy.

How it compares with the iPad and other tablets

MacRumors notes the Tablet 11 costs less than Apple’s $449 entry iPad, which includes 128GB. The 12 Pro costs less than the $749 11-inch iPad Air and has a larger, faster screen.

If you are weighing Android alternatives, our look at the Galaxy Tab S12 price and release date shows what $1,199 buys instead. Google’s laptop push is also worth a read in our Googlebook price guide.

Amazon also announced Kids versions in 8.7-inch and 11-inch sizes. They include a kid-proof case and one year of Amazon Kids+.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I buy the Alexa Tablets?

Orders opened October 8. They ship October 14 in the US, Canada and Mexico, and October 19 in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. They are also sold at Best Buy and Target.

Do Alexa Tablets run Fire OS?

No. They run Android with the Google Play Store. Existing Fire tablets keep working and will get support for at least four more years after Amazon’s last Fire tablet.

Is Alexa+ free on the tablets?

Alexa+ is built in on the tablets. Full access across your other Alexa devices needs a Prime membership or a separate Alexa+ subscription.

Can Alexa see everything on my screen?

Only if you opt in. Screen reading is off by default and shows an indicator when it is active.

The Alexa Tablet 11 is the one I would watch. At $329.99 with Google Play and Alexa+, it covers what most people do on a tablet, and it undercuts Apple’s entry iPad. Skip the 12 Pro unless you will use the keyboard and pen daily, because the accessories push it past $740. Wait for reviews before ordering, since battery and screen claims come from Amazon.
