Apple Pro and Tell Event on Oct 28: A Touchscreen MacBook Pro and What Else to Expect

The Apple Pro and Tell event happens this Wednesday, October 28, in Los Angeles, and Macs look like the star. Apple has confirmed only the name, date and place, but the rumor mill points to the first touchscreen MacBook Pro.

Here is what is official, what is rumored, and what you should do before you buy anything.

The short version first.

  • Date: Wednesday, October 28, 2026, in Los Angeles
  • Name: “Pro and tell” (Apple has not listed any products)
  • Likely timing: press releases around 10 a.m. Pacific, then hands-on sessions for media
  • Most-rumored product: a touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro

This is a launch “experience” for press, not a big keynote stream, so expect news to arrive as press releases.

What Apple has actually confirmed

Apple has sent invites for an all-day launch experience in Los Angeles. MacRumors says Apple teased “another set of product introductions” under the “Pro and tell” tagline, and nothing more.

The timing makes sense. It is Apple’s third launch this autumn and the second under CEO John Ternus, who took over from Tim Cook on September 1, according to The Next Web. Gurman had earlier said the launch was planned for October 27, so the date moved by a day.

The touchscreen MacBook Pro everyone is talking about

According to Bloomberg, as relayed by The Next Web, Apple will show redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with OLED touchscreens. They would swap the notch for a Dynamic Island and be much lighter than today’s models.

That would be the first touchscreen Mac. Apple has long argued that macOS is built for a mouse and trackpad, so this is a real change of stance.

Not every report agrees on the details. The Free Press Journal notes that the chip is tipped to be M5 Pro and M5 Max, and that some recent reporting says the slimmer design may be less dramatic than hoped. Treat the specs as open until Apple speaks.

Other Macs and an iPad that could show up

Bloomberg also expects a cheaper 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip and a refreshed iMac, both keeping their current looks. An OLED iPad mini is the fourth likely product.

Product What is reported Status
Touchscreen MacBook Pro (14 and 16 inch) OLED screen, Dynamic Island, lighter body Rumor (Bloomberg)
Entry 14-inch MacBook Pro M6 chip, current design Rumor (Bloomberg)
iMac refresh Same design, new chip Rumor (Bloomberg)
iPad mini OLED display, moved front camera, new speakers, A20 Pro in code Rumor (Bloomberg, 9to5Mac)

Why this matters: the M6 first appeared in the Mac mini in August, so an M6 MacBook Pro and iMac would simply bring the same chip to more machines. No prices or ship dates have leaked in the sources we checked.

Should you wait for the Apple Pro and Tell event before buying?

If you are shopping for a MacBook Pro, iMac or iPad mini, yes. Three days is a short wait, and a redesign usually pushes older models down in price.

If you need a Mac this week for work, buy what fits your budget. A first-generation redesign can also come with early quirks, and a touchscreen Mac will need app updates to feel right.

We have seen that app-support gap on Apple’s other new hardware. The iPhone Duo story is a good example, since early reviews say third-party apps show black bars until developers update them.

How to follow the news on the day

Because this is a press experience, the first sign of news should be Apple’s Newsroom page filling up with press releases. Tech sites will then post hands-on impressions through the afternoon.

Check the specs, the starting price and the ship date before you react to the hype. Rumors often get one of those three wrong, and the chip names in this launch are already reported two different ways.

We will cover whatever Apple announces once the details are public, so you do not have to sort through the noise yourself.

What about the software side?

MacRumors reports that iOS 27.2 release candidates are out, so a public release may land as soon as next week. Our guide to iOS 27.2 release date and features covers what to expect on your iPhone.

A revamped Health app was pulled from iOS 27.2 and is now due later this year, so do not update just for that.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time is the Apple Pro and Tell event?

Press releases are expected around 10 a.m. Pacific on October 28, followed by hands-on time for media. Apple has not confirmed a livestream.

Will Apple really launch a touchscreen Mac?

Bloomberg says so, but Apple has not confirmed it. The company has only teased “Pro and tell.”

Will there be a Windows 12 or new iPhone at the event?

No sign of either. The reports point to Macs and an iPad mini, and the iPhone Duo is already on sale.

When can I buy the new products?

Unknown. Apple has not shared pricing or availability, and the sources we checked do not either.

Our take

Wait until Wednesday if you can. The touchscreen MacBook Pro is still a rumor, but the invite wording and the Bloomberg reports line up well enough to hold off a big Mac purchase for three days. Once Apple shows real specs and prices, you can decide with facts instead of leaks.
