The ChatGPT iCloud plugin is here: ChatGPT can now read your iCloud Mail, send emails, and manage your Apple Calendar. It works on every plan, including free, and you connect it with an Apple app-specific password.
That’s handy if you live in Apple’s apps. It also hands an AI real access to your inbox, so the setup details matter.
These are the quick facts before you start.
- Launched: October 27, 2026, rolling out globally.
- Plans: all ChatGPT plans, including free.
- Where: ChatGPT on web, desktop, and iOS.
- You need: an Apple Account with two-factor authentication.
- Limit: iCloud Mail only, not Gmail or Outlook accounts.
Mail and Calendar connect separately, so plan on two passwords.
What the ChatGPT iCloud plugin can do
According to Cult of Mac, ChatGPT can read and send iCloud Mail, create or update calendar events, and look up saved contacts. It can also draft replies and summarize unread mail each morning, sorted by priority.
Think of tasks like “find the flight email from last week” or “move Friday’s dentist visit to Monday.” Those are the jobs this is built for.
Contacts access is read-only. There are no separate Contacts or Reminders plugins yet, per Digital Trends.
How to connect iCloud Mail and Calendar to ChatGPT
You need a separate app-specific password for each plugin. Apple makes these so an outside app never sees your real password.
First, sign in at account.apple.com and open Sign-In and Security > App-Specific Passwords. Generate one for Mail and one for Calendar. Then in ChatGPT, open Settings > Plugins, pick iCloud Mail, choose Connect, and enter your address and that password. Repeat for Calendar.
Use the right email for each. Mail needs an address ending in @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com. Calendar uses your primary Apple Account email, which may be different, as DealNTech explains.
Settings to check before you trust it
ChatGPT lets you choose how much it can do without asking. The options matter most for email.
| Approval level | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Always ask | ChatGPT checks with you before every action. The safest choice. |
| Allow read actions | It can search and read without asking, but still asks before changes. |
| Allow low-risk actions | It handles small tasks on its own and asks for the rest. |
| Allow all actions | It can send email with no confirmation step. Use with care. |
Start with “Always ask” until you trust how it behaves. An assistant that sends mail on its own can send the wrong thing fast.
Also check your data settings. DealNTech found no iCloud-specific data-use rules from OpenAI as of October 28, so personal-plan users may want “Improve the model for everyone” switched off. If you’re curious about other privacy controls, see our post on ChatGPT locked chats.
Who will get the most out of it
If your life runs on iPhone, Mac, and iCloud Mail, this is the first time ChatGPT can reach your real inbox without a workaround. Busy people with long threads and packed calendars will notice it most.
If your main email is Gmail or Outlook, this plugin won’t help much. It only sees iCloud, so your everyday mail stays out of reach.
A good first test is low risk. Ask it to summarize unread mail and list tomorrow’s events, and leave sending and editing for later. If the summaries are accurate for a week, then try drafting replies.
On a work or school account, an admin may need to switch the plugin on first, according to DealNTech. If you don’t see it in Settings > Plugins, ask your admin before trying anything else.
How to disconnect the plugin
Open Settings > Plugins in ChatGPT, select the plugin, and choose Disconnect. Do this for both Mail and Calendar.
That isn’t enough on its own. Disconnecting in ChatGPT doesn’t revoke the Apple password, so go back to account.apple.com and remove it under App-Specific Passwords. Changing your Apple Account password also revokes all of them.
ChatGPT is getting more hands-on with your apps in general. Our look at the ChatGPT Chrome extension and tab control covers another example.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can ChatGPT read my Gmail through the iCloud plugin?
No. The plugin only reaches mail stored in iCloud Mail. Gmail or Outlook accounts added to Apple’s Mail app aren’t included.
Is the ChatGPT iCloud plugin free?
Yes, it’s available on all ChatGPT plans, including free. Your usual plan limits still apply.
Do I use my normal Apple password?
No. You must generate an app-specific password, and that needs two-factor authentication turned on.
Can ChatGPT send emails without asking me?
Only if you set approvals to “Allow all actions.” Otherwise it asks first.
Our take
The ChatGPT iCloud plugin is useful for inbox triage and scheduling, and it costs nothing to try. But keep approvals on “Always ask,” connect Mail only if you need it, and remove the Apple password the day you stop using it. Convenience is nice, but your inbox holds your password resets, so treat the access like a house key.
