Notion 3.8 Lets Any AI Agent Work Inside Your Workspace: What’s New

Notion 3.8 turns your workspace into something any AI agent can read and edit. If your agent speaks MCP, it can now pull your docs and update your task tracker, and admins can see exactly who connected what.

Notion shipped the update on October 13, 2026, and its official release notes call it “Context for your agents.” Here’s what changed and what’s worth turning on first.

The short version, for skimmers:

  • Released October 13, 2026.
  • Any MCP-compatible agent can connect to your workspace.
  • Notion’s own agents get 150+ MCP tools for outside apps.
  • A new Skills API syncs agent skills across Notion, ChatGPT and Claude.
  • Using your ChatGPT plan inside Notion is limited to Business and Enterprise.

Those five points cover most of the release. The rest is detail you can pick through below.

Why Notion 3.8 matters if you already use AI agents

Until now, getting an outside agent to understand your Notion pages meant copy-pasting or awkward exports. Notion 3.8 treats your workspace as shared memory instead.

That fits a wider push toward agents that act across tools. We saw the same idea in Google’s Gemini Agent for Workspace, and in how Figma Specs lets you write design rules agents follow. Notion is making its bet on being the place where the context lives.

How the new MCP connections work

MCP, short for Model Context Protocol, is the standard that lets AI tools talk to apps. With 3.8, any MCP-compatible agent can read your workspace context and update docs and task trackers.

The part admins will like is control. Per Notion, you can see who connected each AI tool and when it was last used. You can also revoke one person’s access without breaking everyone else’s connections.

Notion’s built-in agents go the other way too. Notion Agent and Custom Agents now get 150+ MCP tools, so they can reach into other apps. Notion’s examples include:

  • Building an account brief from HubSpot pipeline data.
  • Adding Stripe billing details to a customer health review.
  • Pulling Cloudflare infrastructure details into a postmortem.

The point is fewer tabs. The agent gathers the data and drops it where your team already works.

Skills API and the ChatGPT plan option

The new Skills API lets you create, share and maintain agent skills inside Notion. Notion says it syncs them across tools such as ChatGPT and Claude, including loading them from Notion into GitHub.

If you already keep skills elsewhere, you can recreate them in Notion through MCP. One home for your agent instructions beats five slightly different copies.

There’s also a billing change worth knowing about. Business and Enterprise users can connect a ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription to cover AI usage in Notion and pick a GPT model, which Notion says comes with no markup.

Permissions, version history and synced databases

Letting agents edit your workspace only works if you can limit and undo what they do. Notion 3.8 adds three tools aimed at that.

Column permissions let database owners decide which properties each person or agent can view or edit. Notion’s examples are recruiting teams hiding compensation and support agents being kept away from restricted customer data.

Version history now covers pages and databases, with highlighted edits and attribution for both people and agents. You can see who changed something, then restore an earlier version.

Synced databases were also rebuilt, starting with GitHub, Jira and Salesforce. Each sync now shows a live health status, and you can add your own properties, views and automations.

New AI models and smaller changes

Notion added seven AI models in this release. The ones it names include GPT 6.1-Sol, GPT-6 Luna, Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5, and it links to a Knowledge Board for comparing performance.

Here’s a quick look at the smaller changes and who they help:

Change What you get Who benefits
Connections settings redesign Search or browse tools by category, with previews and example workflows Admins and team leads
Verified-tools control Allow only Notion-verified tools, or a list you choose Security-minded admins
Microsoft Teams notifications Mentions, comments and access requests show up in Teams Teams that live in Microsoft 365
ChatGPT plan billing Use your Plus or Pro plan for Notion AI (Business and Enterprise) Heavy ChatGPT users

Notion’s page doesn’t say which plans get the other features or how the rollout is staged. If something is missing in your workspace, check back in a few days before assuming it’s gone.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Notion 3.8?

It’s a Notion release from October 13, 2026 focused on connecting agents to your workspace through MCP, with new permissions, version history and AI models.

Can any AI agent connect to Notion now?

Any MCP-compatible agent can read workspace context and update docs and task trackers. Admins can see and revoke each connection.

Do I need a paid plan for the ChatGPT option?

Yes. Using a ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription inside Notion is available on Business and Enterprise plans.

Which AI models were added?

Seven models, including GPT 6.1-Sol, GPT-6 Luna, Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5, according to Notion’s release notes.

My take: if your team already runs agents, spend ten minutes on the Connections settings and column permissions before anything else. Open access is the easy part. Deciding what an agent should not touch is where Notion 3.8 earns its keep, so set those limits first and add the fun integrations after.
