Googlebook Price Starts at $899: Which of the 5 Launch Laptops Fits You?

The Googlebook price starts at $899 for the Acer Googlebook 14, and the range tops out around $1,299. All five launch models went on sale in the US on October 4, so you can buy one today. They are Google’s first laptops built on the merged Android and ChromeOS platform.

Here’s what you get for the money, which model fits which person, and what to check before you order.

  • Price: from $899 (Acer) to $1,299 (ASUS, HP, Lenovo); Dell XPS Googlebook from $999.
  • On sale: October 4 in the US, October 5 in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia.
  • Updates: 10 years of automatic updates, with quarterly feature drops.
  • Chips: Intel Core Ultra or Snapdragon X Elite, all with a 40+ TOPS NPU.
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM is the minimum, with 32 GB options.

Those are the numbers that matter most. Everything below helps you pick between them.

Googlebook price and models: what each one costs

Google launched five flagships with partner brands rather than one Google-made laptop. According to 9to5Google, these are the starting prices and specs:

Model Starting price Chip Display Weight
Acer Googlebook 14 $899 Intel Core Ultra 5/7 14″ 2.8K OLED touch 2.5 lbs
Dell XPS Googlebook $999 Snapdragon X Elite 13.4″ 2.5K touch 2.2 lbs
ASUS Googlebook 14 $1,299 Intel Core Ultra 5/7 14″ 2.8K OLED touch 2.2 lbs
HP Googlebook 14 $1,299 Snapdragon X Elite 14″ 2.8K OLED touch 2.74 lbs
Lenovo Googlebook 15 $1,299 Intel Core Ultra 5 15.3″ 2.8K OLED touch 2.84 lbs

One caution on pricing. OSTechNix lists the Lenovo model from $1,099.99, so the retailer’s page is worth a look before you pay. Configurations with 32 GB RAM or more storage will cost extra too.

The Acer is the value pick, and the Dell is the lightest. The Lenovo has the biggest screen and the heaviest body.

What a Googlebook does that a Chromebook doesn’t

A Googlebook runs one operating system that blends Android and ChromeOS. Sign in with your Google account and your phone’s settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks and messages follow you.

Android 17 adds Continue On and Cast My Apps, so you can pick up a task from your phone or mirror an app to the laptop. Chrome is the full desktop version, with extensions, vertical tabs and a Gemini side panel.

The Play Store will also mark Android apps built for desktop use. That should help with the old complaint that phone apps look stretched on a laptop screen.

Gemini features and the Glowbar

Google’s Gemini Intelligence is built into the system. Wiggle the pointer or use Magic Pointer to call Gemini, dictate with Rambler, or build a custom widget with Create My Widget.

The Files app shows what’s on your phone and uses on-device AI to write searchable descriptions of your files. If you already use Gemini on your phone, such as the features we covered in our Android Auto Personal Intelligence post, this will feel familiar.

There’s also a small hardware touch: a lid light called the Glowbar that shows Google colors and charge level. Third-party apps can use it for animations.

Hardware, battery and security

Every model has an NPU rated at 40+ TOPS, a haptic glass trackpad and a backlit keyboard. Google claims up to 14 hours of video playback or 16 hours of web browsing, though those are lab figures and real use will be lower.

For security, Googlebooks use the ChromeOS architecture plus a Titan security chip and on-device malware detection. A hypervisor isolates the Linux environment, which developers can use for tools like Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex.

Updates are a big selling point. Ten years of automatic updates beats what most Windows laptops promise. If you’re weighing an older device, our Pixel 6 end of updates guide shows why long support windows matter.

Googlebook or Windows laptop: who should buy now?

If you live in Google apps and use an Android phone, a Googlebook is easy to recommend. Setup is quick, and your phone and laptop work together.

If you depend on Windows-only software, stay put. Gaming is covered by about 20,000 titles plus a year of Nvidia GeForce Now, but that’s not the same as a full Windows library. Our Windows 11 26H2 install guide is the better read for that crowd.

Pre-orders included 12 months of Google AI Pro and 3 months of YouTube Premium. Check whether those offers are still live where you shop.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I buy a Googlebook?

They went on sale in the US on October 4. The UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia followed on October 5.

Google says they get 10 years of automatic updates, with quarterly feature drops similar to Pixel phones.

My take: the $899 Acer is the one to buy for most people. It has the same software, the same 10-year update promise and an OLED screen, and the pricier models mostly add thinner bodies and extra ports. Spend more only if weight or screen size matters to you. And if your work needs Windows apps, wait and see how the app library grows.
