iCloud+ custom email domain now allows 10 email addresses, shown with an envelope and @ symbol

iCloud+ Custom Email Domain Now Allows 10 Addresses, Up From 3

The iCloud+ custom email domain feature just got a lot roomier. You can now create up to 10 addresses on each domain you connect, up from 3, according to 9to5Mac. If you run a small business or a family domain, that’s the difference between squeezing and actually using it.

Here’s the short version before we get into the details.

  • The limit is now 10 addresses per custom domain (it was 3).
  • It’s available to all iCloud+ subscribers at no extra cost, as long as you own the domain.
  • You can connect up to five domains and share each with up to five other people.
  • It first surfaced on October 5, 2026, reportedly spotted by an X user called pdfu.

That’s plenty for most households and tiny teams, though a few catches (covered below) can trip you up.

What changed with the iCloud+ custom email domain limit

Until now, a custom domain on iCloud+ capped out at three personalized addresses. That was fine for you@yourdomain.com, but awkward once you wanted billing@, hello@ and an address for each family member.

Apple’s own support page now lists the new numbers. Here’s how they stack up.

Setting Current limit Note
Addresses per custom domain 10 Reported as up from 3
Custom domains per account 5 Per Apple’s support page
People you can share a domain with 5 Family or invited outsiders
Addresses each shared person can create 10 Per shared domain

Only the first row changed, according to the reports. The other limits are simply what Apple lists today, so the new 10-address ceiling is the number to focus on.

Who actually benefits from 10 addresses

Mostly small operators. A freelancer can split invoices@, support@ and hello@ without paying for a separate mail host.

Families get something out of it too. Because each person you share a domain with can create up to 10 addresses, a household could give every member a real name-based address plus a few throwaways for sign-ups.

There’s a quieter benefit as well. A domain you own travels with you, so if you ever leave iCloud, you can point the same addresses at another provider instead of telling everyone you’ve moved.

Apple also lets you import addresses already in use on your domain, which makes switching over from another host less painful than starting from scratch.

What you need before you set it up

Setup is simple, but Apple has a few requirements. Check these first.

  • An Apple Account with two-factor authentication turned on.
  • iCloud Mail set up on your devices.
  • A domain you already own, or one you buy through the setup flow.

Once it’s connected, the address works in the Mail app, on icloud.com/mail, and with Messages, FaceTime and Calendar.

The catches worth knowing about

The bigger limit doesn’t remove every restriction. These are the ones that bite in real life.

  • An address can’t already be tied to a different Apple Account, and deleting that other account doesn’t free it up.
  • Custom email domains don’t work with managed Apple Accounts, so work or school setups are out.
  • Removing a domain means you can no longer send or receive iCloud Mail at it.
  • Devices on iOS 15 or earlier may not show every address you’ve set up.

So don’t point your only business address at a domain until you’ve tested sending and receiving. A quick trial with a spare address saves a lot of grief.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many email addresses can I create with an iCloud+ custom domain?

Up to 10 per domain, reported as up from 3. You can connect up to five domains to one account.

Does it cost extra?

No. 9to5Mac says it’s included with iCloud+, though you still pay for the domain name itself.

Can I share my domain with family?

Yes. You can share a domain with up to five people. Family Sharing members can be added directly, and anyone outside your family has to accept an invitation first.

Will it work with a work or school Apple Account?

No. Apple says custom email domains aren’t supported with managed accounts.

Is it worth moving your email to iCloud+?

If you already pay for iCloud+ and own a domain, yes. Ten addresses cover a one-person business or a busy family, and you get it without a new bill. If you need shared inboxes, team calendars or admin controls, a proper business email service is still the better tool. For everyone else, this is a quiet but genuinely useful upgrade.
