The Motorola Android 17 update is rolling out in waves, and more than 50 Motorola phones are on the eligible list. Your phone may already have it, or it may be weeks away, depending on your model, region and carrier.
Motorola hasn’t published a single schedule, so the picture is patchy. Here’s what’s confirmed, what’s only reported, and how to check your own phone.
The short version, if you’re skimming:
- Motorola has confirmed 50+ eligible devices, per Android Authority, which cites Lenovo’s Spanish site.
- The stable rollout started on the Motorola Edge 2025, according to the same report.
- Rollouts are gradual and differ by region and carrier.
- To check, open Settings > System > System updates.
- Motorola’s software layer, Hello UI, adds Live Updates, a redesigned volume panel and the Moto Qira assistant.
That list is the safe part. The timing for each model is where it gets fuzzy.
Which phones are getting the Motorola Android 17 update?
Motorola’s list covers the Razr, Edge and Moto G families, plus the Motorola Signature. Android Central notes the list runs back to the Razr+ 2024 and Edge 50 Ultra, so it reaches well past this year’s flagships.
This table groups the confirmed models by family. It’s a summary, not the full list, so check Motorola’s own pages for your exact phone.
| Family | Models named in reports | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Razr | Razr 70 series, Razr 2026 series, Razr Fold 2026, Razr 60 series, Razr 50 Ultra, Razr+ 2024 | Newer Razr phones are expected to go first, but that order is unconfirmed. |
| Edge | Edge 70 family, Edge 2026, Edge 2025, Edge 60 series, Edge 50 Ultra | The Edge 2025 got the first stable build, per Android Authority. |
| Moto G | G Stylus 2026, G Power 2026, G87, G86, G77, G67, G57, G47, G37 | The G57 Power was reported among the first G-series phones to receive it. |
| Signature | Motorola Signature | Reported live in India and Europe as of mid-September. |
One catch: Android Sage says the Moto G24 and G24 Power are not eligible, because they were sold with a single-upgrade promise. That site is the only one making the claim, so treat it as likely rather than final.
What’s new in Hello UI on Android 17
Motorola layers its own Hello UI on top of Android 17. The changes are mostly visual and convenience tweaks, not a rebuild of the phone.
According to PhoneArena, the update brings refreshed Quick Settings, interactive widgets, better HDR brightness handling and Quick Share support for sending files to iPhones. Android Central adds Live Updates in a Dynamic Island-style spot near the camera, lock-screen customization, tinted icons and a redesigned volume panel.
The assistant side is the Moto Qira AI assistant, which Android Authority also lists. If you don’t use it, you can mostly ignore it.
Which of these you get can vary by model, so don’t expect every phone to show every feature on day one.
Why your phone doesn’t have it yet
Motorola says the update will “roll out gradually to other eligible models in the coming weeks and months.” That means staged waves, not one big drop.
Android Sage describes waves of roughly 5 to 10 percent of devices per region at first. It also says some early Edge 70 builds were paused to fix bugs. Both points come from a single article, so view them as a guide, not a rule.
Carrier-locked phones usually wait longest, since carriers test builds before approving them. If you bought an unlocked phone, you’ll often see the update sooner.
It also helps to know where Motorola sits against other brands. Samsung runs a similar staged schedule, which we covered in our One UI 9 rollout guide.
How to check and prepare for the update
Go to Settings > System > System updates and tap Check for updates. If nothing shows up, wait a few days and try again, because waves reach people at different times.
Before you install, do three simple things:
- Back up your photos, messages and app data.
- Charge the phone to at least 50 percent, as Android Authority advises.
- Connect to unmetered Wi-Fi, since Android Sage puts the download at roughly 2GB to 3.5GB.
Skipping the backup is the mistake that hurts most if an update goes wrong.
If your phone is not on the list at all, it may be near the end of its support life. Our Pixel 6 end-of-support guide explains what to do when patches stop.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my Motorola phone getting Android 17?
If it’s a recent Razr, Edge or Moto G model, probably yes. Motorola has confirmed more than 50 devices, but check Motorola’s official list for your exact model.
When will my Motorola get Android 17?
Motorola hasn’t given per-model dates. It says rollout is gradual and varies by region and carrier, so some phones may wait months.
How do I check for the Motorola Android 17 update?
Open Settings > System > System updates and tap Check for updates. Make sure you’re on Wi-Fi with enough battery.
Will the Android 17 update delete my data?
Normally no, but back up first anyway. Big updates occasionally fail, and a backup makes recovery painless.
The bottom line
Don’t hunt for the update by the hour. If your phone is on the list, back it up, keep it updated on Wi-Fi, and let the staged rollout reach you. If you want it right now, an unlocked phone and a manual check are your best bet, but the new look isn’t worth risking a rushed install on a phone you rely on daily.
