Samsung is already testing One UI 9.5, even though One UI 9 is only just reaching most phones. Nothing is official yet, but the builds point to a beta around the end of 2026 and a full launch with the Galaxy S27 in 2027.
Here’s what has actually been spotted, what’s still a guess, and what you can do with your phone today.
Quick facts before we get into it:
- One UI 9.5 is built on Android 17, the same base as One UI 9.0.
- Internal test builds have been found for the Galaxy S26, Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8.
- Samsung hasn’t announced a date, a beta, or a feature list.
- A beta is expected near the end of 2026, with the Galaxy S26 series first in line.
Treat all of the timing above as informed guesswork, not a promise.
What is One UI 9.5, and how is it different from One UI 9?
One UI 9.5 is the next step in Samsung’s Android skin. It sits on the same Android 17 foundation as One UI 9.0, so think of it as a bigger feature refresh rather than a brand-new Android version.
Samsung has followed this pattern before. The .5 release usually arrives with the new Galaxy S phones and brings fresh design touches and AI features.
For you, that means two updates a year. The .0 release lands first on older phones and foldables, and the .5 release follows with new hardware. Plenty of Galaxy owners end up on One UI 9 for months before the next version reaches them.
That’s why the Galaxy S27 is widely expected to ship with it. According to SamMobile, that expectation comes from how the Galaxy S26 launched, not from an official statement.
What has actually been spotted so far?
Two reports give us the best picture. SamMobile reported in August that a first One UI 9.5 firmware showed up on Samsung’s servers for the US Galaxy S27 Ultra.
On October 2, Sammy Fans said internal test builds had been found for the Galaxy S26 series, Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8. Those are described as internal stable packages, with no sign of a public beta yet.
Firmware showing up on a server means Samsung is testing it. It doesn’t mean it’s close to shipping.
One UI 9.5 release date and beta timing
Here’s how the roadmap looks, with what’s confirmed separated from what’s expected.
| Stage | What we know | Status |
|---|---|---|
| One UI 9.0 | Based on Android 17. Shipped on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 line and is now reaching the Galaxy S26 series. | Confirmed |
| One UI 9.5 internal builds | Test firmware found for the Galaxy S26, Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8. | Reported by leakers |
| One UI 9.5 beta | Likely opens around the end of 2026, Galaxy S26 first. | Expected, not announced |
| One UI 9.5 stable | Likely debuts with the Galaxy S27 series in 2027. | Expected, not announced |
Last year’s One UI 8.5 beta opened around the same point in the calendar, which is why outlets expect a similar schedule. The S26 series is the likely first group, with foldables and older flagships possibly invited in 2027.
What features might One UI 9.5 bring?
Nobody outside Samsung knows yet. Sammy Fans says to expect design tweaks and new Galaxy AI features focused on real-time help with tasks, but it gives no specifics.
One useful hint is the Android 17 base. Because both versions share it, Android-level changes should stay small. Most of the difference you’ll notice will be Samsung’s own apps, settings and AI tools.
Until Samsung shows a beta, any feature list you see online is speculation. We’ll update this when real screenshots or release notes appear.
What should you do on your Galaxy phone right now?
Nothing special. If you’re on a recent Galaxy phone, the useful move is to get fully up to date on what’s already out.
Our guide to the One UI 9 update covers what to check before installing. And the October 2026 security update explains which phones get patches first.
If a One UI 9.5 beta opens, only join it on a spare phone or one you can afford to reset. Betas can break apps and banking logins.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the One UI 9.5 release date?
Samsung hasn’t announced one. Reports point to the Galaxy S27 launch in 2027 for the stable version, with a possible beta before then.
Is One UI 9.5 based on Android 18?
No. Reports say it’s based on Android 17, the same as One UI 9.0.
Which phones will get One UI 9.5?
The Galaxy S27 should ship with it. Based on past patterns, the Galaxy S26 series is the most likely first beta group, with other flagships later. Samsung hasn’t confirmed a device list.
Is the One UI 9.5 beta open to everyone?
Not yet. Samsung’s betas usually start in a few countries on select flagships, and no One UI 9.5 beta has been announced.
My take: don’t wait for One UI 9.5. Install One UI 9 when it reaches your phone, and keep an eye on Samsung’s beta announcement around December. If you want the S27 features early, that’s the point to decide whether a beta is worth the risk.
