One UI 9 Update Is Live for Galaxy S25 and Fold 7: What to Know Before You Install

The One UI 9 update is now rolling out to the Galaxy S25 series and Samsung’s 2025 foldables in the US. It’s Samsung’s version of Android 17, and you can grab it from Settings today if your phone has received it. Not every phone sees it at the same moment, so a missing prompt doesn’t mean you’re excluded.

Here are the numbers that matter before you tap anything.

  • Phones: Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 FE, Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 (US carrier and unlocked models).
  • Based on: Android 17.
  • Download size: about 4GB if you’re coming from One UI 8.5.
  • Where to look: Settings, then Software update, then Download and install.

If you were in the public beta, your download should be much smaller, since most files are already on the phone.

Who Can Get the One UI 9 Update Right Now

Samsung is staging this release by device and region, which is why the picture looks patchy. The table below sums up what has been reported as of October 9, based on Android Headlines and Forbes.

Device Status
Galaxy S26 series Rolling out. It started in South Korea and reached T-Mobile in the US in late September.
Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 FE Rolling out in the US on carrier and unlocked models.
Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 Rolling out in the US alongside the S25 line.
Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, A57 Live in South Korea. Other regions usually follow within days.
Galaxy A55 Not yet. It got a third beta in Korea this week.

Forbes also cites Samsung tracker Tarun Vats saying a global release for the S25 line and 2025 foldables went out on October 6, so UK and European owners may already see it. Samsung hasn’t published firm dates for each region.

What’s New in One UI 9

Samsung’s changes lean toward everyday tools rather than a full redesign. These are the ones reported so far.

  • My FanCam keeps a person you pick centered while you edit video of a crowd.
  • Now Nudge shows cards that suggest a next step based on what you’re doing.
  • A Warranty and Care section in Settings for self-checks, coverage details and repair booking.
  • Better privacy alerts when an app tries something suspicious in the background, plus wider scam detection for calls.
  • Quick Panel layout controls, better Notes and DeX workflows, and a Thread View in Interpreter.

Most of these are small, but Warranty and Care and the privacy alerts are the kind of thing you’ll actually use. Forbes counts 11 new features in total, along with new animations and a refreshed look. If you use a Fold 7, the Notes and DeX improvements are worth a look, since they target people who work across screens.

How to Install the One UI 9 Update Without Surprises

A 4GB update is a bit of prep work. A few minutes now saves you from a stalled install later.

  • Connect to Wi-Fi and plug in the phone, or make sure the battery is well above half.
  • Back up photos and chats with Samsung Cloud or Google One.
  • Free up space if storage is nearly full.
  • Open Settings, Software update, then Download and install.

Expect a restart or two, and give the phone a few minutes afterward. Apps may re-optimize in the background, so battery and heat can feel a little off for the first day. That’s normal after a major Android version jump and usually settles quickly.

Neither report mentions known bugs. Even so, if your phone is your only line to work or banking, waiting a few days for early feedback is a sensible call.

Why This One UI 9 Rollout Felt Messy

If you’ve been refreshing Software update for weeks, you’re not imagining the confusion. On September 22, Android Authority reported that Samsung’s Thailand newsroom had moved the Galaxy S26 date from September 21 to September 28, then removed the date and said only “within September.”

Samsung gave no reason, and it wasn’t clear whether the change applied beyond Thailand. Forbes notes that Samsung’s timing shifted several times in September.

One more open question: Samsung hasn’t confirmed whether S25 phones get Gemini Intelligence. Forbes points out the S25 has the 12GB of RAM Google requires, so it qualifies on paper, but that’s not a promise.
