The September 2026 Pixel Drop is rolling out now, and it reaches every Pixel from the Pixel 6 onward. The biggest changes are a “Likely scam” warning inside the Pixel keyboard, an optional Pause Point that slows you down before distracting apps, and better Pixel VIPs.
If your phone is a few years old, this is a free upgrade. Here’s what you get and how to grab it.
Quick facts
- Announced: September 15, 2026, and rolling out in stages
- Works on: Pixel 6 and newer phones, plus the Pixel 5 Watch for the Wear OS 7 update
- Headline features: keyboard Scam Detection, Pause Point, Pixel VIP widgets
- Cost: free
Scam Detection now lives in your keyboard
The Pixel keyboard now shows a “Likely scam” chip above the keys while you chat. It starts in the U.S. on Pixel 6 and newer, according to Thurrott.
That matters because most scams work on speed. A warning at the moment you’re about to reply is more useful than one buried in a message list.
Google says the feature is expanding to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Singapore and the UK. Supported languages include Arabic, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese and Spanish.
Pause Point comes to older Pixels
Pause Point first debuted with the Pixel 11 series. It’s an optional feature that adds a short pause before you open an app you’ve marked as distracting.
With this drop, it reaches Pixel 6 and newer. It won’t stop you from scrolling. It just gives you a second to ask whether you really want to.
Pixel VIPs get a real upgrade
Pixel VIPs now has home-screen widgets for one-tap calling and texting. You also get new notification badges and a floating menu to switch between your VIPs.
If you only care about a handful of people, this is the quickest way to reach them without opening a single app.
What changes for each device
Not everything lands on every device. This table sums up what’s confirmed.
| Feature | Who gets it | Catch |
|---|---|---|
| Keyboard Scam Detection | Pixel 6 and newer | U.S. first, other countries later |
| Pause Point | Pixel 6 and newer | Optional, you turn it on |
| Pixel VIP widgets | Pixel phones in the drop | Add the widget manually |
| Wear OS 7 update | Pixel 5 Watch | Adds Gemini features and offline support |

How to get the September 2026 Pixel Drop
Open Settings, go to System, then System update, and tap Check for update. Rollouts are staged, so it may not show up right away.

A small extra: Harry Potter themes
Google also added Harry Potter wallpapers, icons and sounds. Eligible users get a two-month Audible trial that runs through January 14, 2027, in select countries. It’s a nice extra, but not a reason to update on its own.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the September 2026 Pixel Drop free?
Yes. It arrives as a normal system update at no cost on supported Pixel phones.
Does my Pixel 6 get Pause Point?
Yes. Pause Point is rolling out to Pixel 6 and newer in this drop.
Why don’t I see the update yet?
Google rolls updates out in waves. Check again in a few days, and make sure your phone is on Wi-Fi and charged.
Is keyboard Scam Detection available outside the U.S.?
Not yet for everyone. Google says it’s expanding to several countries, including the UK, Canada, India and Japan.
My take: install it, then turn on Pause Point for the one or two apps that eat your evenings. The keyboard scam chip is the real win, especially if you have family members who get targeted. If you’re on a Pixel 6, treat this as a last good update and plan your next phone.
